PREDICTION
Good luck finding a college football team with a bigger Jekyll/Hyde dynamic than TCU.
The Horned Frogs rank near the bottom of the Big 12 in every statistical category on defense, allowing 5.4 yards per rush, 9.1 yards per pass and 31.6 points per game. Opposing teams have uncharacteristically been having their way against Gary Patterson’s defense this season.
But the Horned Frogs are also capable of playing like an offensive juggernaut, as they average 5.5 yards per rush, 9.3 yards per pass and 34.3 points per game. TCU running backs Zach Evans and Kendre Miller both average more than seven yards per rush and quarterback Max Duggan has thrown for 1,593 yards and 14 touchdowns this season.
When TCU plays at its best, it is capable of impressive results, such as a 52-31 victory at Texas Tech earlier this season.
Duplicating that effort has been difficult, though. The Horned Frogs have rarely brought their A game to the field this season and have subsequently lost four of their past five games.
Losing 29-17 at home to West Virginia last week has left some wondering if it’s too late for TCU to turn its season around.
TCU has the offensive fire power to pull off a road upset against K-State on Saturday, but the Wildcats should be able to hold off the Horned Frogs as long as they limit explosive plays and stop turning the ball over.
K-State should have absolutely no problem moving the ball against this defense.
Skylar Thompson has thrown for 822 yards and six touchdowns in his past three games. If he stays hot and Deuce Vaughn rushes for more than 100 yards, turnovers are about the only thing that could hold back the Wildcats.
Expect K-State to win a shootout at home.
K-State 38, TCU 31.
