K-State once again looking at famous Lockett family for impact wide receiver recruit

Tyler Lockett said he wasn’t satisfied when he passed his father to become the leading receiver in Kansas State history when he was finishing up his senior year with the Wildcats six years ago.

Why? He assumed he would need every catch, yard and touchdown possible to eventually hold off his younger brother, Sterling.

“Who knows?” Lockett said back then. “Sterling may come in next and be able to say he is the best Lockett, that he came in and beat Tyler’s records.”

Those comments were at least slightly made in jest at the time, considering his oldest sibling was still years away college and just starting to show promise as a youth athlete. But it’s beginning to look like another member of the Lockett family might choose to suit up for the Wildcats in the near future.

Sterling Lockett, a junior receiver at Blue Valley High School, received a scholarship offer from K-State Monday.

It seemed inevitable for K-State to show recruiting interest in Sterling Lockett, considering all the great things his family has accomplished on the football field in Manhattan.

His father, Kevin, is one of the best receivers in school history and ranks second in career catches (217) and receiving yards (3,032) and receiving touchdowns (26).

His older brother, Tyler, is the only person who has ever topped him. Tyler owns every major receiving statistic in school history with 249 catches for 3,710 yards and 29 touchdowns.

If that weren’t enough, his uncle, Aaron, was also an electric receiver and return man for the Wildcats. He finished his college career with 137 catches for 2,400 yards.

The Locketts are practically synonymous with K-State football.

Sterling Lockett is a member of the 2022 recruiting class and it seems like his recruitment is beginning to heat up. He is a 5-foot-10 and 155-pound multi-sport athlete, according to his Hudl page.

He still has a long way to go before he steps foot on a college campus, let alone makes a push for the record books.

But K-State is ready to try and add another Lockett to its football family.
