Kansas State Wildcats vs. TCU Horned Frogs: Kickoff time, TV, five things to know

The Kansas State Wildcats will try to bounce back from their most lopsided defeat of the season against the TCU Horned Frogs at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Horned Frogs (3-5, 1-4 Big 12) are favored by eight points, but they have not played well lately and lost their last game at Kansas 27-26.

The Wildcats (3-5, 1-4) are coming off a 51-14 loss against Oklahoma. They will look for a better effort against TCU.

The details

Kickoff: 2:30 p.m. Saturday

Where: Amon G. Carter Stadium, Fort Worth, Texas

TV: FS1

Radio: KQAM (1480 AM) in Wichita, KCSP (610 AM) in Kansas City

The line: TCU by 8

Five things to know

  1. The Horned Frogs are reeling. This is not the way TCU fans expected this season to go. Little has gone right since Gary Patterson’s team climbed to No. 15 in the national polls following a 2-0 start. They followed that up with a loss to Ohio State and have now lost five of their last six.
  2. TCU remains strong on defense. The Horned Frogs haven’t been winning lately, but you can’t fault their defense for that. TCU ranks second in the Big 12 in yards allowed per game (339.2) and haven’t allowed any conference opponent other than Oklahoma to score more than 31 points. It held Iowa State to 14 points and Texas Tech to 17 points.
  3. Don’t expect Duke Shelley to return for K-State in this game. Bill Snyder said following the Wildcats’ loss to Oklahoma that he doubts Shelley will be able to play anytime soon. His loss is a tough blow for K-State. Shelley, a senior corner, has been the team’s best player on defense.
  4. Michael Collins is still adjusting to his new role as starting quarterback for the Horned Frogs. With Shawn Robinson out for the season with an injury, Collins did all he could to help TCU against Kansas. He threw for 351 yards and a touchdown.
  5. Alex Barnes will try to bounce back in this game. Barnes looked unstoppable rushing for 250 yards against Baylor and backing that up with 189 more against Oklahoma State. But he was not a factor in K-State’s loss to Oklahoma, as he rushed for 28 yards on 13 carries. Justin Silmon took over late and was more productive, rushing for 51 yards and a touchdown. The Wildcats will need Barnes to get back to his old self against TCU.
