▪ ABOUT TEXAS (20-11, 11-7 Big 12): Point guard Isaiah Taylor became the first Longhorns player to be chosen first-team all-conference since 2012, and Prince Ibeh is the league’s defensive player of the year. First-year coach Shaka Smart is bidding for his second straight conference tournament title. His VCU team won the Atlantic-10 title last year.  

▪ ABOUT BAYLOR (21-10, 10-8 Big 12): The Bears and Longhorns split the season series, with each winning on the road. The Bears went 4-5 in Big 12 games in Waco, 6-3 on the road. Baylor has been a solid Big 12 Tournament team, with a 10-7 record since 2009. The Bears lug a two-game losing streak into the event, falling at Oklahoma and at home to West Virginia.
