▪ ABOUT TEXAS TECH (19-11, 9-9 Big 12): The Red Raiders are likely in the NCAA Tournament no matter what happens in Kansas City, but it would be a good idea for Tech not to lose its opener. It’s already been a good week for scoring leader Toddrick Gotcher. After Tech beat Kansas State in the regular-season finale, Gotcher proposed to his girlfriend on the court, and she said yes.
▪ ABOUT TCU (11-20, 2-16 Big 12): The Horned Frogs were swept by Tech this season, and the teams are meeting in a conference tournament for the first time since 1993, when they were members of the Southwest Conference. Guards Malique Trent and Chauncey Collins have combined to score 45 percent of TCU’s points over the last four games. Trent came up with six steals in the regular-season finale against Oklahoma and he leads the Big 12 in that category with 2.47 per game.
