The Big 12 women’s basketball tournament could be on the move ... down the street.

League commissioner Bob Bowlsby said the event could move to T-Mobile Center, site of the men’s tournament. The women would play on dates before the men, with the championship game on Tuesday, the day before the men begin.

“Likely the year after (next),” Bowlsby said in text message to The Star.

When it’s been in Kansas City, as it is this year, the women’s tournament has been played at 10,000-seat Municipal Auditorium. The historic building, opened in 1935, has been the home to nine men’s Final Fours.

But other major conference women’s tournaments, like the Big Ten in Indianapolis and SEC in Greenville, South Carolina, are played in larger, modern arenas.

Fourth-ranked Baylor will take on No. 7 Texas in the championship game on Sunday. Tipoff is 1 p.m.
