Charlie Strong says Texas should be making more progress

The corner has not been turned at Texas.

Since the 2009 season, when the Longhorns swept through the regular season undefeated and fell to Alabama in the national-championship game, Texas hasn’t won a league title and finished as high as second once.

Coach Charlie Strong begins his third season and understands his 11-14 overall record (9-9 in Big 12 play) is not close to Texas standards.

“The expectations here are always high, which they should be and why you wouldn’t want them any other way,” Strong said. “There is no reason for us to go 6-7 and 5-7 and you want to see progress.”

If only the Longhorns could play Oklahoma every week. Strong has split his two games against the Sooners, and played them tough in the 2014 loss.

“Nothing has to be said,” Strong said. “That’s one game I don’t have to even give a pep talk. You would like to see us play that way all the time and that’s what we haven’t done.”
