Iowa State’s Georges Niang leads all-Big 12 Tournament team
Georges Niang, Iowa State (MVP)
The Cyclones’ sure thing. Niang led Iowa State with 19 points in Saturday’s title game victory, and his scoring kept Iowa State afloat in the first half. He averaged 18 points in the three games, and Niang is looking for a big NCAA Tournament after breaking his foot early in last year’s event.
Monte Morris, Iowa State
The hero of the quarterfinal victory over Texas with his buzzer-beater, Morris was solid all week. He scored all 11 of his points against Kansas in the second half. He also led the Cyclones with 24 points in the victory over Texas.
Wayne Selden, Kansas
Selden rediscovered his game in the tournament, dropping in a career-high 25 against Iowa State, which followed a 20-point performance against Baylor in the semis. Selden’s three-point play with 1:29 left Saturdays tied the score, but Kansas couldn’t finish.
Buddy Hield, Oklahoma
Hield, the Big 12’s regular-season player of the year, struggled with his shot in two games, but he found ways to score and help the Sooners. Hield finished with 22 in the quarterfinal victory over Oklahoma State and added 16 points and 10 rebounds against Iowa State in the semis.
Rico Gathers, Baylor
The league’s top rebounder, did his thing with 13 boards against Kansas and nine against West Virginia. He also added a total of 26 points in the two games.
