Park volleyball heads to NAIA quarterfinals

The second-ranked Park women’s volleyball team advanced to the NAIA quarterfinals after finishing pool play with a 3-0 record on Thursday at the national tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.

The Pirates, 37-0, swept No. 11 Grand View (Iowa). They were led by Wanessa Siqueira and Wendy Romero, who combined for 23 kills.

“I’m happy that we performed with a lot of consistency against a Grand View team that was well coached and trying to end its season with a highlight win,” Park coach Mike Talamantes said. “We take a lot of pride in our performance, and I thought that showed today.”

Park’s quarterfinal at 8 p.m. Friday will be the winner of an elimination match earlier in the day between Concordia (Calif.), 33-3, and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), 35-4.

The semifinals and championship match are on Saturday.
