Kansas State rises to No. 14 in AP college football poll, Missouri drops out
Idle Kansas State moved up three spots in Sunday’s Associated Press Top 25, while Missouri fell from the polls for the second time this season after a shutout loss against Georgia.
The Wildcats, 4-1, who had their second of three byes last weekend, are now ranked No. 14 ahead of next Saturday’s battle at No. 11 Oklahoma, which held steady in the ranking after a narrow win against Texas.
The Tigers, 4-2, who were shut out for the first time since 2002, are no longer receiving any votes in the AP poll after a 34-0 loss against the Bulldogs, who leapt ahead of the Sooners for 10th in the latest ranking.
With a lopsided win against Auburn, Mississippi State moved to the top spot for the first time since 1964, relegating Florida State to No. 2.
The Seminoles had been ranked first throughout the season.
Mississippi checks in third with Baylor and Notre Dame, which plays at Florida State on Saturday, rounding out the top five.
All five of the top-five teams are 6-0, while Auburn slipped from second to sixth with a 38-23 loss to Mississippi State.
Alabama remained seventh just ahead of Michigan State and Oregon.
TCU dropped from ninth to 12th after its first loss of the season, a 61-58 defeat at Baylor on a last-second field goal, while Oklahoma State moved up on spot to 15th despite its struggles against Kansas.
The only other ranked SEC team is No. 21 Texas A&M, but LSU, Kentucky, Arkansas and South Carolina each received votes in the latest poll.
Unbeaten Marshall, 6-0, moved into the ranking for the first time at No. 25.
In the USA Today Coaches’ Poll, Missouri, which had been ranked 24th, still received five votes.
