The best part of the year for college basketball is almost here. The regular season is winding down, Selection Sunday is in less than a month, and after that it’s finally time for March Madness.

Welcome to Beyond the Bracket, a special edition series of the SportsBeat KC podcast that’s here to get you ready for the NCAA Tournament.

Each week, I’ll be joined by reporters and columnists from around the country to discuss college hoops. This first episode features insiders into two of men’s basketball’s prestige programs: John Clay, a columnist for the Lexington Herald-Leader covering Kentucky, and C.L. Brown, the North Carolina beat reporter for The News & Observer in Raleigh.

On this episode: We react to the selection committee’s first early reveal of the top 16 men’s seeds, debate which bubble teams have what it takes to make the cut on Selection Sunday, share our front runners for national coach of the year and national player of the year, give our current Final Four picks, and discuss which games we’re most excited to watch this week.
