UMKC’s Frerichs among qualifiers for NCAA track meet

UMKC’s Courtney Frerichs had the fastest time in the women’s 3,0000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA West Preliminary track and field meet Friday in Austin, Texas.

Frerichs won one of three heats in 9 minutes, 48.30 seconds and qualified for the NCAA national meet, which runs June 10-13 in Eugene, Ore.

Athletes from Kansas, K-State and Missouri also qualified for the NCAA meet Thursday and Friday.

Kansas qualifiers were Daina Levy, women’s hammer throw and discus; Sydney Conley, women’s long jump; Colleen O’Brien, women’s high jump; Mitch Cooper and Cole Ceban, men’s discus; and Michael Stigler, men’s 400 hurdles.

K-State athletes advancing were Alyx Treasure, Akela Jones and Kim Williamson, women’s high jump; Tia’ Gamble, women’s 400 hurdles; Sara Savatovic, women’s hammer throw; Ifeanyichukwu Otuonye, men’s long jump; and Christoff Bryan and Nate Gipson, men’s high jump.

MU’s Kearsten Peoples advanced in the women’s hammer throw, Katrine Haarklau in the women’s pole vault and Markesh Woodson in the men’s 100.

▪ Missouri State’s regional game against Canisius in the NCAA baseball tournament was postponed because of rain in Springfield. The game is set for today at 12:05 p.m.
