Emporia State women fall in NCAA Division II semifinal

Emporia State’s season ended Wednesday with a 51-46 loss to California of Pennsylvania in the NCAA Division II national basketball semifinals.

Kelly Moten led the Hornets with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Emporia State shot only 22 percent from the field in the second half and scored just six points in the game’s final 14 minutes.

Merissa Quick finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Kathryn Flott led the way on the glass, pulling down 11 boards.

Emporia State finished 29-5 and was the MIAA tournament champion.

California will play for the national title Friday against Cal Baptist or Limestone.
