For four years, Trent Lunsford has toiled away at Indiana State, balancing a pitching career with the Sycamores and a demanding major in finance.

Now the university has recognized the former Blue Valley Northwest athlete for his achievements in both. Lunsford received the Alan C. Rankin Distinguished Senior Award, an accolade bestowed upon two male and female students from the senior class who demonstrate leadership on campus and in the community. Rankin Award recipients must also have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and submitted an essay about how they have dedicated time to service on campus and in the community.

A four-year baseball letterman, Lunsford has appeared in 59 games for the Missouri Valley Conference team.

“ISU has provided me with the ability to play the sport I love at a high level, while also earning a degree that will help me start a career,” Lunsford said in a release. “Right now, Indiana State is my life, and I could not be more pleased with everything the university has provided for me and allowed me to accomplish.”
