MIAA Tournament results: Women’s top seed Fort Hays State advances, Central Missouri coach wins 600th game
Top-seeded Fort Hays State easily advanced to the semifinals of the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association women’s basketball tournament with a 79-53 victory over No. 9 seed Northeastern State (Okla.) on Friday at Municipal Auditorium.
Kate Lehman led the Tigers with 24 points and Chelsea Mason scored 23, making five of eight three-point attempts. Fort Hays shot 53.7 percent from the field.
The Tigers will face the No. 5 seed Central Missouri at 6 p.m. Saturday. The Jennies beat Missouri Southern 70-64 behind Revonnia Howard’s 23 points and nine rebounds.
The victory was No. 600 in the career of Central Missouri coach Dave Slifer.
On the other side of the bracket, hot shooting helped second-seeded Emporia State defeated Missouri Western 77-60.
The Hornets made 56.4 percent of their shots from the field.
Merissa Quick led Emporia State with 17 points.
The Hornets will face Pittsburg State in the semifinals at 8:15 p.m. Saturday. Pittsburg State advanced by defeating Central Oklahoma 78-71 behind 17 points from Mikaela Burgess and Lizzy Jeronimus.
