Rockhurst men, Central Missouri women reach NCAA Division II soccer regional finals
The Rockhurst men’s and Central Missouri women’s soccer teams moved a step closer to the NCAA Division II championships in Kansas City.
Both teams reached regional finals with victories Sunday. Rockhurst beat Southern Indiana 3-1 at home behind second-half goals from Michael Panarisi and Adam Michel. The Hawks, 17-2-2 and top-seeded in the Midwest Region, will face No. 6 seed Drury, 13-4-3, on Friday in Hays, Kan.
Also Friday, the host Fort Hays State men, the No. 1 seed in the Central Region, will play No. 2 seed Lindenwood.
Central Missouri beat Central Oklahoma 2-1 at home on Jada Scott’s penalty-kick goal, her 16th score of the season. The Jennies, 20-1-0 and top-seeded in the Central Region, will face Fort Hays State on Friday in Allendale, Mich. Fort Hays State defeated Minnesota State-Mankato 4-2 in penalty kicks after the game ended 2-2 on Sunday in Mankato, Minn.
Also Friday, the Truman women, seeded second in the Midwest Region, will face top-seeded and host Grand Valley State.
The Midwest and Central regional champions square off in national quarterfinal matches Sunday at the same sites. The Division II semifinals and championship games will be contested at Swope Soccer Village on Dec. 1 and 3.
