KU basketball could play eight games at Sprint Center this season

This March will be the eighth straight Big 12 Tournament in the Sprint Center, where the KU men’s basketball team has compiled a 25-4 record since the start of the 2009-10 season.

And it gets even better for the Jayhawks: They could play eight games in Kansas City this season, including one to clinch a spot in the Final Four.

It starts with the CBE Hall of Fame Classic on Nov. 21 and 22. The Jayhawks will play Alabama-Birmingham at 8:30 p.m. Nov. 21 in the semifinals and either Georgia or George Washington the following night for third place or the championship.

On Dec. 17, KU plays another game in KC, against Davidson at 6 p.m.

Then there’s the Big 12 Tournament on March 8-11, and barring KU being seeded seventh or worse, the Jayhawks will open in the quarterfinals on March 9, followed by the semifinals and championship.

The Sprint Center is also home to the Midwest Regional of the NCAA Tournament, with Sweet 16 games on March 23 and the Elite Eight on March 25, with the winner advancing to the Final Four in Glendale, Ariz. Tickets for the regional go on sale Saturday.

KU hasn’t been seeded worse than second in the NCAA Tournament since 2009, so a placement close to Lawrence in the Midwest Regional is possible.

▪ Sprint Center is also home to a Kansas State men’s basketball game this season. The Wildcats will play Washington State at 7 p.m. Dec. 10.
