Royals World Series Trophy due at Missouri Sports Hall of Fame event
The 2015 World Series trophy eventually will reside permanently in the Royals Hall of Fame in left field at Kauffman Stadium, but it’s going to make an appearance Sunday at the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Springfield.
Fans who make the trek to watch Central Missouri athletic director Jerry Hughes be named a Missouri Sports Legend or see the enshrinement of former Missouri football coach Gary Pinkel — who won more games on the sideline than anyone else in Tigers history before retiring in November — also can share a moment with the Commissioner’s Trophy.
The day begins with an 11 a.m. reception at the Hall of Fame, 3861 E. Stan Musial Drive, and concludes with a 4 p.m. reception followed by dinner and the awards ceremony at the University Plaza Convention Center, 730 St. Louis Street.
A ticket is required for both events. Tickets, which cost $150 for individuals or $1,500 for a table of 10, remain available by calling 417-889-3100.
The 2016 Hall of Fame class also includes Excelsior Springs native and long-time NFL coach Gregg Williams, former Chiefs center and Bishop Miege coach Tim Grunhard, U.S. Olympic gymnast Terin Humphrey and long-time Royals scout Art Stewart.
Former major-league baseball player Jerry Reuss, bull rider L.J. Jenkins and former NFL linebacker Eric Williams also are set to be enshrined along with former Missouri track standout Natasha Kaiser-Brown and the Tigers’ 1966 Sugar Bowl team.
Finally, Evangel men’s basketball coach Steve Jenkins, TCU baseball coach Lance Brown, Missouri Southern men’s basketball coach Robert Corn, St. Louis University High racquetball coach Joe Koestner, former Missouti State sports information director Mark Stillwell and John Burroughs football coach Jim Lemen (as well as the Bombers program) will be enshrined.
