Paul Martel, whose sports accomplishments spanned both sides of Missouri, died Sunday in St. Louis. He was 91.

Martel was a standout athlete at Rockhurst College (now Rockhurst University) in the 1940s, earning four letters in basketball and three in football. In 1984, he was inducted in the school’s Hall of Fame.

Martel went on to an outstanding football coaching career. His stops included Immaculata High and Bishop Miege in Kansas and St. Louis University High in Missouri, where his 1970 team won the Class 4A state championship.
