Women’s pro basketball team coming to Kansas City

Kansas City will be home to a professional women’s basketball team again starting this May.

The team is called the Kansas City Majestics and it will play in the Women’s Blue Chip Basketball League, which includes 40 developmental squads in nine regions. The city was previously home to the Kansas City Mustangs during 1992-1996.

Former Missouri standout Sarah Campbell will serve as head coach and co-owner. She received two MVP awards with the Mustangs.

“Basketball has been a big part of my life,” Campbell said in a statement. “I have played on every level and have seen the highs and lows of the game. I am now in the position that I can give the same opportunity to young women that I had playing professional basketball. The game is not easy, but it is well worth the hard work and commitment.”

Jade Tinner, who played for UMKC, is also a co-owner and will play for the Majestics. She has been a part of the WBCBL for three years and is currently the director of marketing.

“I’m so excited to get the opportunity to bring some great basketball to Kansas City,” Tinner said in a statement. “Basketball has blessed me to do and see things I could have never dreamed of. I’m ready to get back on the court and show Kansas City how the game of basketball should be played.”

The Majestics will be holding three tryout sessions before their season begins. The first was on Sunday, and the next two will take place on Feb. 6 and Feb. 28. Times and locations have not been announced. The sessions cost $30 and $35 dollars respectively.
