Joel Embiid watches Kansas signee Cliff Alexander earns MVP honors at the Jordan Classic

Joel Embiid was in Brooklyn on Friday night for the Jordan Brand Classic. He had a front-row seat for the future of Kansas basketball.

Embiid, the former Kansas center, watched as power forward Cliff Alexander, a Kansas signee, scored 23 points and added eight rebounds and five blocks while earning co-MVP honors in the high school all-star showcase. Duke-bound center Jahlil Okafor, another Chicago native, was also selected an MVP.

Fellow Kansas signee Kelly Oubre, a small forward from Findlay Prep in Las Vegas, finished with 24 points and five rebounds.

Kansas target Myles Turner, a five-star center from Euless, Texas, was in New York for the game but sat out with an ankle injury. After the game, Alexander told reporters in New York that he and Embiid each lobbied Turner to choose KU. Embiid, who declared for the NBA Draft earlier this month, has completed his coursework for this semester at KU and is now prepping for the draft.

Turner, who is considering a group of schools that also includes Texas, SMU, Duke and Oklahoma State He is slated to make his college decision in a televised ceremony on April 30.
