816: Missouri girls swimming and diving state recap
Lee's Summit North High School sophomore Haley Hynes added to her already illustrious high school swimming resume last Saturday when she captured first- and second-place medals at the Missouri girls state championships in St. Peters. Mo.
Hynes won the 100-yard backstroke for the second straight season and was runner-up in the 200 individual medley.
She helped highlight an otherwise relatively quiet day for area swimmers with only two Kansas City area teams placing in the top-10 in the team standings.
Park Hill South placed third, and Blue Springs was eighth. Nevertheless, a group of local swimmers returned to Kansas City with medals, which are awarded to the top eight places in each event.
Blue Springs senior Corinne Rinne capped her high school career with a second straight title in the 100 breaststroke. Her teammate, Blue Springs junior Ashley Sturman, placed third in the 500 freestyle and sixth in the 100 butterfly.
St. Teresa's Academy sophomore Andie Round earned medals, fourth in the 50 freestyle and fifth in the 100 freestyle.
Blue Springs took fifth and Lee's Summit North was seventh in the 200 medley relay.
Springfield Glendale won the team state championship, and Marquette of Ballwin in the St. Louis area was second.
