Yankees' Cam Schlittler Sends Bold Message to Blue Jays Fans
Cam Schlittler will be taking the mound for the New York Yankees this afternoon against the Toronto Blue Jays - and he's not intimidated.
Rogers Centre has been a house of horrors for the Yankees lately. In nine games north of the border in 2025 (including the postseason), New York won only once. That trend continued yesterday in a frustrating 8-5 loss that saw the reigning American League champions race out to a 5-0 lead by the second inning.
The Bronx Bombers have often looked discombobulated in these games, as an electric atmosphere from Blue Jays fans prove to be too much.
But Schlittler, who is an early AL Cy Young favorite, sees a different side of Blue Jays fans.
"They're easy to rage-bait, I think," Schlittler said to Yankees beat reporter Bryan Hoch. "All the stuff last year in the playoffs or whatever it is - they've got a whole country behind them, so there's a lot. They're passionate about it. You respect them for that, but I don't really like them."

The 25-year-old righty is no stranger to riling up opposing fans. He's done the same thing to the Boston Red Sox, the team he grew up cheering for, with his online banter.
However, Schlittler has consistently backed up his words with his performances on the mound. This was best exemplified by his historic eight-inning masterpiece against Boston in Game 3 of the 2025 AL Wild Card Series, which sent the Yankees to the ALDS to face the Blue Jays. New York went on to lose that series in four games, with Schlittler losing the clincher.
"They ended our season last year. I hope everyone's got that chip on their shoulder," Schlittler said. "We came here and underperformed for two games. We kind of got our [butts] kicked. We went home and I definitely thought we played better. It was frustrating how it ended there."

Schlittler AL SP ranks since MLB debut:

xFIP - 1st
fWAR - 2nd

Schlittler has lost each of his last two starts against Toronto, both in Yankee Stadium. But he pitched fairly well in both, combining for 12.1 innings and allowing four earned runs with two walks and nine strikeouts. Rather, his efforts were undone by the Yankees' offense going silent. In Game 4 of the ALDS, they could only score twice against Toronto's bullpen, and only mustered one run on May 20 with Trey Yesavage firing blanks for six innings.
Saturday will be Schlittler's second career start in Toronto; the second start of his major league career came in Rogers Centre on July 22 last year. He pitched five innings and allowed two runs on seven hits and three walks, while striking out three. The Yankees won this game 5-4, their only win in Toronto over a 10-game span.
Opposing Schlittler today will be Kevin Gausman. The Yankees are currently tied for first place in the AL East with a 41-27 record, eight games ahead of the 34-36 Blue Jays.
