AJ Dybantsa Has Request for Trae Young if the Wizards Draft Him
AJ Dybantsa is widely expected to come off the board with the Washington Wizards‘ No. 1 overall pick in the upcoming 2026 NBA Draft.
If that’s the case, the rookie will be paired up in the backcourt with veteran point guard Trae Young - who arrived in Washington as part of a midseason trade before last year’s deadline.
Dybantsa wore the No. 3 jersey throughout his high school career and one-year collegiate career with the BYU Cougars. Young wore the No. 11 jersey during his collegiate years with the Oklahoma Sooners and throughout his NBA career with the Atlanta Hawks.
But upon his arrival in Washington, Young switched to No. 3.
"If they draft me, I do need 3, Trae,” Dybantsa said during an appearance on the “Gil’s Arena” podcast. “If they draft me. We're gonna see in like 5 weeks.”

Dybantsa went on to explain why the Wizards should select him with the top overall pick in the 2026 draft.
“I’m super versatile as a player,” Dybantsa said. “I can guard 1-5. … I play the game the right way. I try to get wins. I try to get everyone involved, I like everybody eating. I’m an exciting player. I make a lot of highlight plays. I fill seats.”
