10 Greatest Georgia Bulldogs Football Players of All Time
Ranking the 10 best football players at any powerhouse collegiate program is a mighty task. It's tougher still when that school is Georgia.
The Bulldogs have been one of the best college football teams in the country for the past decade-plus. Add that to an impressive run from the 1960s to the early '80s and some solid teams in the '90s and 2000s, and we're talking about some of the greatest to ever play.
For the record, this ranking only takes into consideration what the player accomplished while in school. Nothing he did in the NFL matters. Well, none of it matters here.
And, of course, you're likely going to disagree. Except at No. 1. You just cannot there.
Honorable Mentions
- DL Bill Stanfill (1966-1968)
- K Kevin Butler (1981-1984)
- DL Richard Seymour (1997-2000)
- WR Terrence Edwards (1999-2002)
- QB David Greene (2001-2004)
- WR A.J. Green (2008-2010)
- QB Aaron Murray (2009-2013)
- LB Jarvis Jones (2010-2012)
- RB Todd Gurley (2012-2014)
10. S Jake Scott (1966-1968)
The 1968 SEC Player of the Year, Scott might rank higher if NFL contributions were considered. As is, Georgia's all-time interceptions leader cracks the list, anyway.
9. OL Matt Stinchcomb (1995-1998)
The greatest offensive lineman to ever play at Georgia, Stinchcomb was a two-time first-team All-American who dominated in the late 1990s, ultimately earning enshrinement into the College Football Hall of Fame.
8. S Terry Hoage (1980-1983)
Who remembers this GREAT @FootballUGA star from years past? Safety Terry Hoage! #GoDawgs

Like Scott, Hoage is another Georgia safety dynamo. A two-time All-American who finished fifth in Heisman Trophy voting in 1983, Hoage picked off a school-record 12 passes in 1982 before a nice NFL career.
7. RB Nick Chubb (2014-2017)
The thunder to Sony Michel's lightning, Chubb was Georgia's No. 1 back in the era just before the Bulldogs became the super-power they now find themselves. He ranks second in school history in yards rushing and rushing touchdowns.
6. WR Hines Ward (1994-1997)
Ward ranks just eighth in Georgia history in receptions and is outside the top 10 in both yards receiving and touchdowns. But he's here because of his 3,870 all-purpose yards (1,066 rushing, 1,965 receiving, 918 passing). He could do it all.
5. QB Stetson Bennett IV (2017, 2019-22)
A back-to-back national champion, Bennett doesn't come close when talking about the most rawly-talented players in Georgia history. It's hard to deny results, though, and besides, Bennett still cracks the top five in several Georgia passing categories.
4. LB David Pollack (2001-2004)
Pollack might be the best purely defensive player Georgia's ever had. He remains the school's all-time sacks leader and won six individual awards while earning three All-American honors during his stint with the Bulldogs in the 2000s.
3. RB Frank Sinkwich (1940-1942)
A Heisman Trophy winner and the best player on the first Georgia team to win a national championship, Sinkwich was also a three-time first-team All-SEC selection and his No. 21 is one of three numbers retired at the school.
2. CB Champ Bailey (1996-1998)
Bailey played both wide receiver and cornerback for the Bulldogs from 1996 to 1998. He finished seventh in Heisman voting in his final season while earning All-American honors and winning the Bronko Nagurski Award.
1. RB Herschel Walker (1980-1982)
Walker could be the best college running back in history, nevermind just for Georgia. He finished third and second in Heisman voting his first two seasons before winning the trophy as a junior. His 5,259 yards rushing rank first in school history and are almost 500 more than Chubb's total in second, despite Walker playing just three seasons.
