Jalen Hurts Speaks on Potential AJ Brown Trade for Eagles Amid OTAs

By now, most fans expect that the Philadelphia Eagles are going to trade wide receiver A.J. Brown this offseason, after four seasons playing for the team.

The three-time Pro Bowl selection made strong contributions to their successful 2024-25 season, which culminated in a Super Bowl LIX victory over Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

However, things became dicey this past season, with behind-the-scenes issues involving Brown, who was reportedly discontent with how the offense was operating.

The team seemingly made a significant move to improve the offense in January by parting ways with offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo and hiring former Green Bay Packers quarterback coach Sean Mannion as the new OC.

The Eagles’ OTA offseason workouts began Tuesday, and on Wednesday, they announced another major move: the signing of wide receiver Brandon Hayes to their roster.

That allows the team to have the right amount of receivers participating in the workouts, and seems to further the expectation of a Brown trade, likely next month.

This move came weeks after April’s NFL Draft, where they chose talented USC wide receiver Makai Lemon with their first-round pick.

On Wednesday, quarterback Jalen Hurts responded to reporters’ questions from the OTAs in Philadelphia, including one about the possibility of Brown getting traded. Just as he was getting asked the question, he picked up a nearby cup to begin taking a drink.

“Picked the right question to sip on, huh?” he said, with reporters in the room laughing at his response.

“I think for us, we’re focused on learning the offense, it really doesn’t change, in terms of our approach to improve, you know?” Hurts said. “There’s an if. It’s obviously been a lingering thing, but nothing can replace all the greatness that we achieved together.”

Hurts knows this has been a hot topic surrounding the Eagles since before their last season ended. His response shows that while he’s ready to move on from this topic, he’s also appreciative of what Brown helped him and his teammates accomplish.

The expectation is that Brown will get traded next month, and the New England Patriots, a team seemingly dealing with off-field distractions involving head coach Mike Vrabel, will be the ones to add him to their roster.

That should end the distraction that he might be for the Eagles as they look to improve for next season. Hurts has brand-new personnel to get acclimated to, including his fifth offensive coordinator in five seasons with Philly, and new members of the receiving corps for 2026-27.
