Dodgers Injury News: Two Relievers Making Progress Toward Return

The Los Angeles Dodgers bullpen ended their 38 consecutive scoreless inning streak Monday night when Kyle Hurt gave up a solo home run to Ezequiel Tovar of the Colorado Rockies.

While the Dodgers bullpen's dominance has been on full display this month, the unit is missing several key pieces heading into the summer.

The team recently provided injury updates on a number of players, including relievers Edwin Díaz and Evan Phillips.

The Dodgers closer has been sidelined for most of the season after undergoing surgery to repair loose bodies in his elbow. However, manager Dave Roberts revealed Díaz is set to begin baseball activities this week.

"I think Edwin is supposed to start playing catch either today or tomorrow," Roberts said Monday.

The Dodgers bullpen has done well without their closer, but the return of Díaz should keep the unit elite down the stretch.

As for Phillips, he threw 23 pitches during a live batting practice at Dodger Stadium Tuesday, which marked his third live BP thus far.

Phillips is scheduled for a fourth one Friday in Arizona before starting a rehab assignment the first week of June, barring any setbacks.

The Dodgers re-signed Phillips in the offseason, knowing that the right-hander would be sidelined for much of the 2026 season. Phillips was a key contributor for the Dodgers' World Series run in 2024, but missed most of last year after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Phillips is closer to returning than Díaz, but it's evident the Dodgers are set to get some major reinforcements in the bullpen this summer.
