Mets Expect Tyrone Taylor to Hit IL with Hip Injury
It might just be another blow to an already disastrous season for the New York Mets. During Monday's game against the Cincinnati Reds, outfielder Tyrone Taylor exited the game after his at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning with right hip pain.
Taylor was in visible discomfort as he pulled up running out of the batter's box after grounding out to third base. As the teams switched over for the top of the seventh inning, Taylor headed back to the clubhouse with trainers. Utilityman MJ Melendez took his spot in the lineup and slotted in at left field, while rookie Nick Morabito moved over to right field.
After the game, Mets manager Carlos Mendoza was asked about Taylor's exit from the game.
"The right hip. He felt something there; he's going to get an MRI tomorrow and see what we're dealing with, but probably going on the IL."

The Mets' outfield was already thin entering the week, with superstar Juan Soto sitting out his second straight game with an illness. Along with Taylor and Morabito, rookie A.J. Ewing was manning center field on Monday. Another rookie, Carson Benge, got the day off on defense and played as the team's designated hitter.
Taylor joins a long list of Mets position players currently nursing ailments. Of note, Francisco Lindor, Luis Robert Jr., Francisco Alvarez, Jorge Polanco, Jared Young, and Ronny Mauricio are all out with extended absences from the team. That makes a majority of the Mets' lineup from MLB Opening Day currently sidelined with injuries.

It is unclear how serious Taylor's injury is, although Mendoza was fairly confident that he would require an IL stint before he's even had any imaging done. Young is the only player on the Injured List who is close to returning to the Mets.
With Taylor out of the lineup, the team will need to lean even more on this year's version of the Baby Mets. Fans can expect Ewing, Benge, and Morabito to get plenty of playing time for the foreseeable future, even after Soto returns to the lineup. Taylor is known more for his glove than his bat, and his ineffectiveness at the plate has limited his playing time despite his defensive prowess.
In 42 games this year, Taylor is slashing just .189/.214/.326, with three home runs and 14 RBI in 101 plate appearances.
