Mariners Manager Gives Cal Raleigh Injury Update

The Seattle Mariners are trying to recapture the magic from the 2025 season, but things have not gone as well early on.

Entering Memorial Day, the Mariners have a 25-29 record, and they are second in the American League West.

Star catcher Cal Raleigh, who finished as the American League MVP runner-up last season, got off to a brutal start this year in a strange scene.

Raleigh hit just .161 with seven home runs and 18 RBIs before he landed on the IL with a right oblique strain, and he even had a surprising 0-for-38 hitless streak.

While Raleigh has been on the IL, a firm return timeline remains to be seen, but manager Dan Wilson gave an update on Monday.

"Cal Raleigh was slated for light catch play today, Dan Wilson just said. That represents his first baseball activity since he was placed on the IL. No timeline yet on his return, but sounds like he'll remain in Arizona rehabbing for at least a little while longer," according to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com.

In Raleigh's absence, the Marienrs have used Jhonny Pereda and Mitch Garver, neither of whom has hit well, either.

This Marks First Time Raleigh Lands on IL

Believe it or not, this is the first time Raleigh has landed on the IL in his career.

After the initial injury news surfaced, Wilson was optimistic about this not being a long-term issue.

"The good news here is that he's got a chance to get himself back, to get himself healthy and to come back with a lot of the season left," Wilson said, via Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. "And I think that's really the silver lining here."

It has not even been two weeks, so Raleigh seems to be progressing well at the moment.

The Mariners are making do without Raleigh, and maybe his landing on the IL gives him a chance to take a step back and try to be able to clear his mind after the struggles he has had at the plate to begin the 2026 MLB season.
