French Open Facing 'Record' Temperatures As 2026 Grand Slam Begins

The second Grand Slam of the 2026 tennis season is underway.

The first round of the 2026 French Open began on Sunday morning. The tournament, which will run for two weeks, is held annually at Stade Roland Garros in France. Americans like Tommy Paul, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton on the men's side, and Amanda Anisimova and Coco Gauff on the women's side, will be looking to make deep runs in the 2026 Grand Slam tournament.

But heading into the tournament, both players and fans are dealing with some pretty extreme heat, that's rare at this time of the year.

Tournament staff have been seen using a hose to cool off both players and fans early on Sunday.

Meanwhile, as temperatures approach the 80s, they could get to a record-high level in the coming days.

"In terms of weather, look like this Roland-Garros will be a record in terms of temperature. I never see température like this end of May and prevision getting higher every time. 1st round and 2nd Round will be hard but at least no rain delays," the alert states.

Temperatures are expected to reach the low 90s in Fahrenheit.

Tennis fans react to extreme heat forecast

"Seeing the heat there is today at Roland Garros, Djokovic can be thankful they didn't schedule his match for three in the afternoon today. Seeing also how badly Sinner is struggling with the heat, we'll see what the organizers do, whether they put him on Tuesday during the day (31ºC expected) or at night," one wrote.

"The Paris heat will be the great equalizer for the French Open. We're gonna see some BIG names drop early because of it…" one added.

"No Alcaraz so Roland Garros is officially wide open 🎾🔥 Sinner's the favorite, but the clay always finds a way to humble somebody 🤔," one shared.

It's going to be a hot tournament, that's clear.
