What Happens If Liverpool Win, Lose or Draw vs Brentford? European Qualification Explained
For the last matchday of the 2025/26 Premier League season, Liverpool will play to secure Champions League football next season.
The teams that finish in the top five positions of the Premier League table will qualify for the Champions League next season. Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Aston Villa have already qualified.
Last week, Aston Villa secured Champions League football by beating Liverpool 4-2 at home.
Liverpool is currently 5th and only needs a point to claim Champions League football next season. Today, Liverpool will take on Brentford at Anfield.
However, if Liverpool loses, 6th-place Bournemouth will look to take 5th place with a win against Bournemouth.
Results That Affect Liverpool's Champions League Qualification Aspirations
Liverpool is 5th with 59 points, and Bournemouth is 6th with 56 points. If Liverpool wins or draws against Brentford, they will get Champions League football, regardless of Bournemouth's result against Nottingham Forest.
If Liverpool loses, Bournemouth would need to win by at least six goals over Nottingham Forest to claim fifth place and get Champions League football. With this result, Liverpool would finish 6th and get the Europa League next season.
There is a scenario where the team that finishes 6th in the Premier League can secure Champions League football next season, but it all depends on Aston Villa's game against Manchester City.
Aston Villa won the Europa League last week, and if they finish 5th, which would happen if they lose to Man City and Liverpool beats Brentford, then the team who finsihes 6th will play in the Champions League next season.
If Aston Villa finishes 4th, 6th place will get Europa League football next season.
