Dodgers Lose Player to Orioles Before Padres Game

The Los Angeles Dodgers continue navigating frequent roster movement throughout the early portion of the 2026 MLB season as the organization prepares for an important divisional matchup against the San Diego Padres. Entering Monday in San Diego with a 29-18 record and sitting in first place in the National League West, the Dodgers are hoping to widen their slim 0.5-game lead over the second-place Padres.

Ahead of Monday's game against San Diego, the Dodgers lost another organizational depth piece after the Baltimore Orioles claimed outfielder Michael Siani off waivers. According to Jake Rill of MLB.com, Baltimore immediately optioned Siani to Triple-A Norfolk following the move. The Orioles also designated right-handed pitcher Jose Espada for assignment in a corresponding transaction.

"Orioles have claimed OF Michael Siani off waivers from the Dodgers and optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk. RHP Jose Espada was DFA'd to make room on the 40-man roster," Rill shared on X

Siani only spent three months with the Dodgers organization after being claimed in February. The 26-year-old outfielder never appeared in a Major League game for Los Angeles, but he remains an intriguing option due to his elite defensive ability and speed in the outfield.

While Siani has struggled offensively in his MLB career, with a .221 AVG and a .547 OPS across 160 career games, his defensive skillset will now make him a potentially valuable organizational piece for the Orioles.

While Siani was not expected to play a major role for Los Angeles at the MLB level this season, the move still removes another layer of defensive depth from a Dodgers team that has dealt with constant roster turnover throughout the year.

Baltimore will now hope Siani's defensive abilities can eventually translate into a larger opportunity within the Orioles clubhouse.
