UFC President Dana White Publicly Asking President Trump For Help
UFC President Dana White and U.S. President Donald Trump have a long, friendly history.
White often credits President Trump with being one of the key figures behind the UFC's success. It was President Trump's casinos in Atlantic City that initially agreed to host the then-controversial UFC fights more than two decades ago. President Trump and Dana White have remained good friends, with the latter publicly endorsing him for office multiple times.
The UFC President recently penned a letter to President Trump, publicly asking him for help with a tax situation.
White is asking President Trump to implore U.S. Congress to reverse a provision in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that places a 90% limit on gambling loss deductions.
"The current law makes it irrational to bet in the United States because you could end up owing taxes even when you lose or having a tax bill that exceeds your winnings for the year," White wrote in the letter, which was dated May 11. "The UFC supports a healthy, legal sports betting market to drive fan engagement, broadcast value, and sponsorships. When legal betting is discouraged, it hurts the ecosystem we've spent years building in partnership with state regulators and licensed operators."
Many in the betting community agree with White
When the bill was signed into law in July, many professional and high-stakes bettors objected.
For example, if a bettor won $100,000 and then lost $100,000 gambling, they made exactly $0, but would still technically owe $10,000 in taxes.
"Restoring the 100 percent gambling loss deduction remains a top priority for the AGA, and we continue to actively engage with Congress and the administration to support a legislative solution," American Gaming Association senior vice president of government relations Chris Cylke said in a statement to ESPN. "We appreciate Dana White helping raise awareness about the negative impacts this issue has not only on bettors, but also on businesses and jobs connected to the legal gaming ecosystem."
White is hoping that his personal relationship with President Trump will help him fix this issue.
