Rams' Ty Simpson Breaks Silence on Sean McVay's Viral Draft Night Reaction

Perhaps the most talked about moment from the 2026 NFL draft was Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay's angry disposition while speaking to reporters after the team selected Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson with the 13th overall pick.

Most believed McVay's crotchety demeanor was due to L.A. taking a player who does nothing to help the team win a Super Bowl next season.

Though McVay's reaction immediately after the Simpson selection went viral, Simpson himself finally addressed being at the center of the awkward moment with his new head coach.

"I didn’t really see it," Simpson admitted. "I know one thing, though - I know coach McVay has been in contact and he’s super fired up. And I’m super excited. I know that I couldn’t have asked for a better situation, not only with the best player in the league in front of me but the best coach in the league at the helm."

In the two weeks since the draft, it's been revealed that McVay actually had no issue with taking Simpson. In fact, he was actually on board with the selection and even had a "secret meeting" with the Crimson Tide alum prior to the draft.

As for the real reason why McVay was in a bad mood on draft night, Pro Football Talk's Chris Simms recently revealed what really had him in a foul mood.

"What he did tell me was the reason he, in the press conference, was pissed off had neither to do with him acting or the pick, but had to do with some sort of volatile situation that happened before they went out there," Simms said.

"There was some little argument about something. He assured me it was nothing major, but he was a little peed off. That's what he told me. I don't think he'd have any problem with me sharing that and that was that."
