NBA Accused Of Going 'Easy' On Victor Wembanyama's Punishment
The NBA is choosing to not further punish San Antonio Spurs star big man Victor Wembanyama following his Flagrant 2 elbow on Sunday night.
The Spurs star elbowed Minnesota Timberwolves forward Naz Reid in the head on Sunday evening. Wembanyama was promptly hit with an ejection. Some believed that he could be suspended for Game 5, too.
However, that won't be happening.
ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania broke the news.
"There will be no further discipline for Spurs star Victor Wembanyama after he was ejected for elbowing Naz Reid in Minnesota on Sunday night, sources tell ESPN. No suspension, no fine. Wembanyama will play in Game 5 against the Timberwolves on Tuesday night in San Antonio," he reported.
NBA fans aren't thrilled, though.
Many felt that Wembanyama was deserving of a suspension. His elbow of the Minnesota Timberwolves big man felt intentional. It was dangerous, too. An elbow to the head is severe.
Fans think Wembanyama deserved more punishment
NBA fans debated what is appropriate.
"Wemby should at least be suspended for game 5 at a minimum. The intent is so clear," one wrote.
"He was a proven dirty player!! Multiple suspensions and fines! Wemby had never been ejected up until last night....so do not bring up Ron Artest in reference to last night!!" one fan added.
"You already know Adam Silver doesn't have the guts to serve justice," one shared.
NBA writer Matt Moore shared: "I'm pretty surprised no follow-up suspension. He sized him up, it wasn't instinctive, it wasn't a rebound clear-out. League has always made shots to the head a big deal for obvious reasons."
Did NBA commissioner Adam Silver and the league go too easy on Wembanyma with their punishment announcement on Monday?
