Panthers Notched One of the ‘Best Signings This Offseason' in the NFL

The Carolina Panthers aren’t always at the top of best-of tallies, but the team is getting heavy props for one of its offseason moves, and for good reason.

During their downtime, the Panthers locked in and signed All-Pro linebacker Devin Lloyd to a three-year, $45 million contract, including $25 million in guaranteed money and a $15.25 million signing bonus, according to research from Spotrac. The deal followed his strong season with the Jaguars, and he’ll bring just what the Panthers need for their 2026-27 run.

In ESPN’s post-draft power rankings, even though the outlet ranks the Panthers as the No. 22 best team in the league going into the new season, they have good things to say about the Lloyd signing.

“The addition of All-Pro Devin Lloyd was among the league’s best signings this offseason,” Michael DiRocco states. “He brings big-play ability — five interceptions, including a 99-yard touchdown return last season — and has improved as a pass rusher.”

He adds, “Lloyd set career highs in QB hits (10) and pressures (18) in 2025. The Panthers had 30 sacks last season, tied for the third fewest in the NFL, and they had the second-lowest pressure rate (27%).”

My Take: What Devin Lloyd Brings to the Panthers

ESPN’s entire analysis of the Panthers’ offseason surrounded the Lloyd move, and that makes sense, because that signing is really the move that’s going to define the team’s season. Carolina rounded out their 2025-26 season with a decent 8-9 record and at the top of the struggling NFC South, so just a few moves could go a long way for this team. Signing Lloyd could be the difference-maker come September.
