Why Is Federico Valverde Not Playing Tonight for Real Madrid vs Barcelona?

Real Madrid and Barcelona face off at the Spotify Camp Nou as Alvaro Arbeloa's team seeks to delay the Catalans' crowning as La Liga champions for another week.

Los Blancos have faced a difficult period in recent weeks following their elimination from the Champions League. Adding to the disappointment of ending the season without any silverware, rumors of discord within the squad have also begun to circulate.

The situation deteriorated further when Fede Valverde and Aurelien Tchouameni allegedly had a confrontation that resulted in the Uruguayan requiring hospitalization. In response, the club implemented disciplinary actions against the two players and imposed significant fines on both.

Why is Federico Valverde Absent from Tonight's El Clasico?

The Real Madrid midfielder has been at the center of a disciplinary storm following a physical altercation with teammate Aurélien Tchouaméni.

During a training session on Thursday, May 7, a heated argument between Valverde and Tchouaméni turned physical. Reports indicate Valverde suffered a head injury during the scuffle (reportedly hitting his head on a table) and required a brief hospital visit.

Madrid then imposed a €500,000 fine on both players and released a statement confirming that while both players expressed "complete remorse," the severity of the incident warranted significant financial penalties.

The club also released a statement on the Uruguayan's injury.

"Following tests carried out today on our player Fede Valverde by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury.

Valverde is at home in good condition and will have to remain at rest for 10 to 14 days, as indicated by the medical protocols for this diagnosis," the report read.

He is expected to be sidelined for 10 to 14 days, which rules him out of today's El Clásico against Barcelona.
