Guardians Share Stephen Vogt Health Update After Loss to Twins
The Cleveland Guardians enter Sunday at 21-20 on the season in a tight American League Central race with no clear division leader. The Guardians are hosting the Minnesota Twins for the Mother's Day series finale at Progressive Field, but they will have to do so without the man running the dugout.
Per Mason Horodoyski of News 5 Cleveland, manager Stephen Vogt will not be managing Sunday's game against the Twins, as he's dealing with a lingering respiratory issue. Bench coach Tony Arnerich will serve as acting manager.
The Guardians did not offer any timeline for Vogt's return.
Vogt, 41, has led Cleveland since signing a three-year deal with the club on November 6, 2023, taking over for Terry Francona, and has won back-to-back AL Manager of the Year honors in 2024 and 2025, becoming the first AL manager to earn the award in consecutive seasons since Kevin Cash of the Tampa Bay Rays did so in 2020 and 2021.
Since he took over managerial duties, Vogt has led the Guardians to a record 201-163 (.552) and has led his 2024 and 2025 teams to the postseason.

Anerich joined Cleveland ahead of the 2026 season as Vogt's new bench coach after his predecessor, Craig Albernaz, was named manager of the Baltimore Orioles. The two share a history on Seattle's coaching staff and their familiarity has helped the pair develop a strong working relationship since joining forces in Cleveland.
The Twins enter Sunday at 17-23 in last place in the AL Central, three and a half games behind the Guardians. Following the series, Cleveland will welcome the Los Angeles Angels for a three-game series on Monday.
