The final stretch of the spring sports season has begun as we have switched over to May. That applies to the Lady Spartans swim and dive team as well as they hosted their final home meet of the season.
On the special evening, the Lady Spartans seniors were honored as well as diving coach Barbara Clark who will retire from coaching after 40 years of coaching at Emporia High School. At the meet, the Lady Spartans earned a fifth place finish through some good events for both the swimmers and diver.
As is the usual, on the diving side of thing Allie Weiss took home a Senior Night gold to add another gold to her trophy cabinet. She won the dive handily as she had a score of 313.25 and the second place diver had a score of 146.60 to continue her journey to a third State championship.
On the swimming side of things, Connelly Prouse placed fifth in the 200-yard freestyle. Ellie Grimmett finished fourth in the 200-yard IM. Taryn Woydziak added a sixth place finish in the 50-yard freestyle. Rounding out the individual swimming events is a sixth place finish from Ava Podrebarac in the 100-yard breaststroke.
In the relays, the Lady Spartans had a sixth place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a team consisting of Sage Wohletz, Podrebarac, Grimmett, and Woydziak. That same squad added a fifth place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay to round out the fifth place finish as a team for the Lady Spartans.
With it being the final stretch, the Lady Spartans do not have many more events before the League meet. To be specific, they have one more meet before said League meet as they will travel to the Capitol Federal Natatorium in Topeka on May 5.
