Jon Rahm 'Doesn't See' Many Ways Out Of His LIV Golf Contract
Jon Rahm doesn't see any loopholes out of his LIV Golf contract as the league faces a potential financial fiasco.
Saudi Arabia confirmed last week that it will no longer fund LIV Golf after the 2026 season. Rahm was one of many stars who left the PGA Tour to join the newly formed competitor, where he's won two individual championships.
Per ESPN's Mark Schlabach, Rahm reflected on his situation Tuesday ahead of an upcoming LIV Golf event in Washington, D.C.
"Right now, I have several years in my contract left," Rahm said. "I'm pretty sure they did a pretty good job when they drafted that, so I don't see many ways out. Right now, I'm not really thinking about it because we still have a season to play and majors to compete for. It's not something I want to think about just yet."
"We want to be here"
Rahm claimed that LIV Golfers were assured on Tuesday that the league would maintain funding. The 31-year-old was caught off guard by news of the PIF's divestment.
"For me, the reality kind of came afterwards," Rahm said. 'I would say, like everybody, [I was] surprised. Obviously unexpected. We did hear the news that there would be funding for many years. But then, as the future of the league goes, I think that's obviously a question for the businesspeople."
While he remains under contract with LIV Golf, Rahm and the DP World Tour agreed to settle a long-running dispute. Rahm will maintain eligibility for next year's Ryder Cup after ending a stalemate over unpaid fines related to his competing in other events without a release.
"There is no longer a standoff," Rahm said. "We were able to reach an agreement. There were some concessions on both sides, and I offered some, they extended an olive branch. So that will not be a stress anymore."
Rahm, who leads LIV Golf in points this season, hopes CEO Scott O'Neil can work out a solution to keep the league afloat.
"We want to be here," Rahm said. "It's been a lot of fun. I want to keep competing. I want to keep sharing some time with [my teammates], but time will tell. Obviously, I think Scott and his team have a lot of hard work to do."
