Celtics Share Worrying Jayson Tatum Update Before Game 7

The Celtics have a major concern heading into Game 7, and it could not have come at a worse time. With their first-round series against the 76ers going all the way to a winner-takes-all finish, Boston has now shared a worrying update on Jayson Tatum's status.

After initially listing the team as fully healthy, the Celtics downgraded Tatum because of knee stiffness, putting his availability in doubt for the biggest game of the series. For a matchup that already has enough pressure, Boston now has to deal with uncertainty around its biggest star just hours before tip-off.

The Celtics took to X to share an update on their star saying, "Jayson Tatum - Left Knee Stiffness - QUESTIONABLE."

A Closer Look at Game Seven Between the Celtics and 76ers

Boston-Philadelphia Game 7 already had enough drama, and then the Tatum news made it even bigger.

The Celtics had this series in their hands a few days ago. They were up 3-1, had a double-digit lead in Game 5, and looked ready to move on. Instead, they let the Sixers back into it, and now Boston has to save its season without Jayson Tatum on the floor.

That changes everything. Tatum is usually the player who settles possessions, draws attention, and gives Boston a reliable option when the offense gets messy. Without him, the Celtics need Jaylen Brown, Derrick White, and the rest of the group to carry far more responsibility. Their spacing, ball movement, and three-point shooting have to be sharp because they cannot afford long empty stretches.

Philadelphia will know this is a massive opening. The Sixers have not been perfect in this series either, especially early in games, but they now have a real chance to steal the series after looking nearly finished. Joel Embiid will still be the main focus, and if Boston cannot make him work defensively, the matchup could tilt quickly.

This game may come down to who creates easier looks. Both teams have spent much of the series taking tough jumpers, and neither side has consistently found smooth offense. In a Game 7, that usually means one short run, one cold spell, or one surprise role-player performance can decide everything.

The Knicks are waiting, but first Boston has to survive its worst-timed injury scare of the season.
