Anne Hathaway Goes Viral After Knicks' Historic Win vs. Hawks - Here's Why
Anne Hathaway is ubiquitous in 2026.
The Oscar-winning actress will have starred in five movies this year by year’s end: “Mother Mary,” “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” “The End of Oak Street,” “The Odyssey,” and “Verity.” If that weren’t enough, Hathaway is also starring in New York Knicks lore.
To set the scene: The Knicks humiliated the Atlanta Hawks to the ends of the earth on Thursday night. The Hawks may have considered folding by the end of the first quarter, as New York led 40-15, and it only got worse from there. The Knicks held an 83-36 lead at halftime. Ultimately, the Knicks won Game 6 by 51 points, 140-89, to eliminate Atlanta in the first round of the NBA playoffs.
Statheads will be interested to know that it marked just the eighth time in NBA history that the margin of victory exceeded 50 points in a playoff game, per Brett Siegel. The Knicks also accomplished something that 37,963 road teams since 1996 failed to do, scoring 100 points before the home team, Atlanta, scored 50, per Keerthika Uthayakumar.
But everyone else was talking about Anne Hathaway after the Knicks’ win.
OG Anunoby led the Knicks with 29 points on 11-of-14 shooting (4-of-6 from three), while posting seven rebounds, four steals, and two assists as well. His performance resurfaced Hathaway’s “The Tonight Show” appearance from the night before, and it went viral.
Hathaway wore a blue-and-orange pocket square in honor of the Knicks and described her fandom: “I’m very chill. I’m very loving and calm, but I’m also the type of fan that I considered wearing an OG jersey out here today.”
20th Century Studios saw the natural promo opportunity and took it. When the Knicks posted their “ADVANCE” graphic to celebrate the series win, 20th Century quote-tweeted it with an 11-second clip from Karl-Anthony Towns’ cameo in “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” in theatres today:
In the clip, Andy, Hathaway’s iconic “Devil Wears Prada” character, tells the Knicks’ six-time All-Star, “It was a great series. Like, it was a thrill to be a New Yorker.”
Art imitating life, life imitating art.
Towns managed to log a triple-down - 12 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists - on just 1-of-4 shooting from the floor against Atlanta.
That was enough against the Hawks, who apparently just wanted to go home, but the Knicks will need to get Towns more involved if they want to reach the Eastern Conference Finals for a second straight year, let alone the NBA Finals.
New York will face either the Boston Celtics, a rematch of last year’s Eastern Conference semifinals, or the Philadelphia 76ers in the next round. The Celtics and Sixers are tied 3-3, with Game 7 on Saturday.
