Blue Jays Announce George Springer News After Missing 15 Games
The Toronto Blue Jays have had a tough go at it in the month of April, with Tuesday's 3-0 win over the Boston Red Sox improving the team's record to 9-15 on the month. While last season's World Series runner-ups are talented on paper, it has been a rarity for them to be at full strength this season.
One of the more notable injuries the team has had to endure is that of the designated hitter, George Springer. The three-time Silver Slugger Award winner has been out of the lineup for the past 15 games after fracturing his big toe when he fouled a pitch off his foot on April 11.
Springer wasn't necessarily lighting the world on fire before the injury, as he was hitting just .185 with an OPS of .661, but Blue Jays fans know it doesn't take much for him to get hot. Something they may have a chance of seeing quite soon.
As announced on social media by the team, the 36-year-old Springer will be making a return to the active roster on Wednesday.
"OF George Springer reinstated from 10-day IL and will be active today," wrote the Blue Jays on X.
According to ESPN, Springer isn't expected to start in the team's Wednesday game against the Red Sox, but coukd make an appearance off of the bench.
"While that's no longer the case, he is available off the bench and could well start as soon as tomorrow," wrote ESPN. "Brace yourself for the possibility that he might be eased back into the lineup over time with a day off or some early exits over the coming week. He's still worth immediately slotting back into your fantasy lineup in ESPN standard and all daily leagues."
The Red Sox and Blue Jays are set to face off at 3:00 p.m. ET in a game that will air on ESPN Unlimited.
