Yankees' Aaron Boone Announces Giancarlo Stanton Injury Update

The New York Yankees were riding high after a 4-2 win over the Texas Rangers on Monday to extend their American League-best record.

Aaron Judge and Ben Rice each hit their 10th home runs of the season, and it came via back-to-back hits in the game. In turn, they joined Yogi Berra and Mickey Mantle in exclusive history.

After the win, however, Yankees manager Aaron Boone gave an unfortunate injury update on slugger Giancarlo Stanton, and he is headed to the IL.

"Giancarlo Stanton is going on the IL with a "low-grade" right calf strain," via Greg Joyce of The New York Post.

Stanton exited the game on Friday against the Baltimore Orioles after appearing to suffer the injury while rounding the bases.

Stanton hasn't played since, and the Yankees did call up Jasson Dominguez on Monday and started him in Stanton's place at designated hitter.

On the season, Stanton has hit .256 with three home runs and 14 RBIs through 24 games.

Stanton played just 77 games in 2025 due to injuries and "tennis elbow," as they called it, but was expected to be ready to go this season.

So, the calf strain is an unfortunate step in the wrong direction, but the Yankees are hoping he doesn't miss much time.

Boone had said previously that they would see if it was a "day-to-day situation or a brief IL stint" for Stanton, so it will be worth monitoring to see when the veteran slugger can return to the club.

Dominguez, who began the season in Triple-A, had a double in four at-bats in his first action of the 2026 season, and he figures to get regular at-bats with Stanton sidelined.

In 2025, Dominguez hit just .257 with 10 home runs and 47 RBIs in 123 games, and the Yankees are certainly hoping he can find his stroke again and be used as an everyday option, even when Stanton is healthy.

The Yankees are 19-10 on the year and have rattled off wins in nine of their last 10 games.
