Francisco Lindor Makes Opinion of Carlos Mendoza Clear After Mets' 11th Straight Loss
The New York Mets have stumbled into one of the worst starts in franchise history, opening the season at 7-15 and sitting at the bottom of the National League East. Their latest setback came Sunday in a 2-1 loss to the Chicago Cubs at Citi Field, extending their losing streak to 11 consecutive games.
It has been a difficult stretch for New York, with the team delivering inconsistent performances to begin the 2026 MLB season. Amid the poor stretch, manager Carlos Mendoza has taken a significant share of the criticism from fans and media, with some already calling for him to receive his marching orders.
Following Sunday's loss, Francisco Lindor addressed questions about Mendoza and offered a firm defense of his manager, placing responsibility on the players.
"He's done a fantastic job. This is not on him," Lindor said. "He has made sure everybody here is prepared. Every coach here is prepared. We have the information. It comes down on us. Mendy's our guy. He's our leader. He's in control and he's done a tremendous job. We just haven't executed. It would be unfair to put everything on him because at the end of the day, he has gotten the ship in the right direction. We just have to, the people are paddling. We've got to paddle and execute."

While Mendoza has faced mounting scrutiny, Lindor has also been among the players struggling at the plate. Through 22 games, he is batting .205 with one home run and one RBI.
As one of the team's leaders and most experienced voices, his own slow start has added to the challenges the Mets currently face.
The Mets return to action Tuesday against the Minnesota Twins. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. ET at Citi Field. New York will look to snap the 11-game skid, regain confidence, and start moving in a better direction as the season progresses.
