Female Triathlete Mara Flavia Araujo Found Dead at 38
A female athlete has been found dead at 38 years old after disappearing during what many call a "brutal" event.
Mara Flavia Araujo was found dead after competing in a Texas Ironman event. The Ironman is known for consisting of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a 26.2-mile run (140.6 miles total). Araujo, a sports enthusiast from Brazil, took part in the iconic competition in Texas earlier this spring.
She had disappeared in the murky waters of the Lake Woodlands area outside Houston, Texas. She was ultimately found dead at the surface of the water. An investigation into the death is underway.
Araujo, who has a big following on social media, had expressed excitement about the competition. She took to her Instagram Story prior to the competition with a simple message: "Another day of work."
The U.S. Sun had more on her tragic death.
"Mara was an accomplished triathlete, placing third in the Brasilia Triathlon and obtaining two world qualifications for the Ironman 70.3," they reported.
"Friend Luis Taveira suggested Mara had health problems, even though her cause of death has not yet been revealed."
Longtime friend of the triathlete released telling statement
Taveira, a longtime friend of the star athlete, released a statement following her tragic death.
"She was ill before the trip, she wasn't okay," he said.
"My wife and I spoke with her to say she was too weak for this race, although a couple of days ago when we talked to her, she insisted she was okay.
"I still cannot believe what's happened."
Our thoughts are with her friends and family members.
May she rest in peace.
