Mike Malott stops Gilbert Burns in UFC Winnipeg main event

A welterweight bout between former title challenger Gilbert Burns and rising Canadian Mike Malott headlined Saturday's UFC fight card in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Burns entered the bout desperately looking for a win. The 39 year-old had lost his last four fights. He hadn't won a bout since April 2023 but is no easy out for anyone. Malott brought a three-fight winning streak with him to the cage and had won nine of his last ten outings.

Burns landed first with a leg kick as the two stood in the center of the cage. Malott pressed forward with a combination. Burnms dug to the body with a hook. Malott connected with a counter combination. His jab began finding a home. Burns landed leg kick and fired off a right hand. Malott responded with a leg kick. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Malott.

Burns looked for takedowns but wasn't able to secure on in the early going. Malott stepped in with an uppercut. He landed a clean right hand. Burns went back to delivering leg kicks. Malott found his range and landed another right hand. Burns committed on a takedown attempt but was denied, again. Malott's jab continued to land. MMAWeekly scored the round 10-9 for Malott.

Burns landed two right hands to start the third frame. Malott pressed forward. Burns looked for a takedown but against was denied. Malott pressured Burns. He landed a left hook that knocked Burnw down. Burns got up and fired back. Malott dropped him again and finished with a series of strikes on the ground.

The official time of the stoppage was 2:08 of the third frame.
