Casey Alexander has landed his first recruit as the head men’s basketball coach at Kansas State.

Devin Hutcherson, a 6-foot-4 and 180-pound small forward from Atlanta, has committed to play for the Wildcats next season.

The three-star recruit pledged his services to Alexander on Friday with a message on social media. It read: “New era, I’m in.”

His decision didn’t come as a surprise. Hutcherson was originally committed to play for Alexander at Belmont, but he re-opened his commitment after Alexander switched jobs.

Hutcherson will follow Alexander to the Big 12 after he was previously one of the highest-rated prospects to ever commit to Belmont. He chose the Bruins over scholarship offers from Georgia Tech, Georgia State and Mississippi.

K-State hasn’t spent much time focusing on high school recruits in recent years. But it appears that will be more of an emphasis now that Alexander is searching for new talent.

It is too early to know what K-State’s basketball roster will look like next season, as the transfer portal isn’t set to open until April 7.

But the Wildcats will feature at least a few connections to Belmont.

Tyler Lundblade, Sam Orme, Brigham Rogers and Drew Scharnowski have all announced their plans to enter the portal after playing for Alexander at Belmont last season. They will all be on his recruiting radar moving forward.
