A Kansas City area native made his much anticipated big league debut Thursday.

The Milwaukee Brewers called up top pitching prospect Jacob Misiorowski this week for a start against the St. Louis Cardinals. And he delivered, throwing five no-hit innings and striking out five while his fastball topped out at more than 102 miles per hour.

Misiorowski said he had no idea he was carrying a no-hitter when he took the mound in the sixth.

“Lot of fun,” Misiorowski said of his debut (via MLB.com’s Adam McCalvy). “Like everything I ever expected.”

In fact, Misiorowski’s MLB debut began with three pitches at 100-plus mph.

“I felt amped up and had to relax myself,” the right-hander said.

However, his day ended early after he appeared to roll his ankle on the mound. He finished with 14 pitches that hit at least 100 mph.

Misiorowski told reporters postgame he was “all good” regarding the ankle.

Born in Blue Springs, Misiorowski grew up in Grain Valley. He is ranked No. 68 in MLB Pipeline’s Top 100 prospects list. He is the No. 4 prospect in the Brewers organization.

At Grain Valley HS, Misiorowski earned All-State honors after posting a 9–2 record with a 1.48 ERA in his junior season (2019). He played under head coach Brian Driskell.

“We are all super proud of Jake. It was an amazing experience getting to see him on the hill,” Driskell told The Star.

After his senior season in 2020 was canceled, Misiorowski enrolled at Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri, where he appeared in two games as a freshman before ultimately deciding to redshirt. He later committed to LSU as a transfer, but the Brewers selected him 63rd overall in the 2022 MLB Draft.

Misiorowski, listed at 6-foot-7, is regarded as a flame-throwing prospect in the Brewers organization, even hitting 100 mph on his fastball in his time at Crowder College. In 13 games with the Brewers’ Triple-A affiliate, the Nashville Sounds, Misiorowski posted a 4-2 record and 2.13 ERA. He collected 80 strikeouts while holding batters to a .175 average, all while averaging 97.7 mph on his fastball.

To put that into perspective: Paul Skenes averages 98 mph on his fastball. Reigning AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal averages 97.6 mph.

“We are looking forward to seeing him throw again,” Driskell continued. “(Thursday) was such a fun experience for his family and friends. He couldn’t have done better. Same ole Miz. Great character and an absolute dog on the mound.”
