Liberty North shortstop headed to New York Mets after being drafted in Round 5
An infielder from Liberty North High School was selected Monday by the New York Mets in the fifth round of the 2024 MLB Draft.
Trey Snyder, a 6-foot-1, 197-pound shortstop who has committed to playing for the Tennessee Volunteers, was the 144th player picked in the three-day draft. Rounds 3-10 took place Monday, with the final rounds awaiting Tuesday.
Snyder, 18, was one of three outstanding high school shortstops in Missouri this past season. The pre-draft consensus, per MLB.com, was that “Snyder’s polish and floor make him the best prospect of the trio, giving him the edge over Tytus Cissell’s athleticism and Drew Dickerson’s physicality.”
The approximate pick value for the 144th selection is $476,000, per MLB.
Snyder was Gatorade’s Missouri high school player of the year and is described per an MLB.com scouting report as “a steady right-handed hitter who makes good swing decisions and provides consistent contact.”
The report continues: “He didn’t show much power on the showcase circuit last summer but has gained some strength and is hitting the ball harder this spring. His biggest backers believe he has 20-homer upside, though others think his pop is more fringy.”

- Caden Favors, pitcher, Wichita State: selected in Round 6 (175th overall) by the Cleveland Guardians
- Kodey Shojinaga, catcher, Kansas: selected in Round 6 (192nd overall) by the Philadelphia Phillies
